TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A weekend of rain has washed out the MHSAA Region 1 Marching Band Festival scheduled for Saturday at Tupelo High School.

Tupelo band director Tim Matlock says the event has been rescheduled for Oct. 18. He says 28 of the 30 bands scheduled for this week said they will return. Matlock says a schedule of performances will be released Monday.

Matlock says the two bands that opted not to return will be able to get their rating at a similar event in Meridian or Grenada.

The festivals around Mississippi determine what bands will go to state competition in November.

The area around Tupelo High School received an inch of rain Friday afternoon and another inch and a half overnight.
