PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) - Police say an 80-year-old Portsmouth woman struck a 77-year-old man several times with a baseball bat, causing a serious head wound.

Filomena Tougas was arrested when police were called to her home Saturday morning in response to a reported domestic disturbance.

Police did not identify the man, who was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Tougas was taken to the Portsmouth police station, where she passed out. Police say she was taken to Newport Hospital.

She was charged with domestic felony assault and arraigned before a justice of the peace who ordered her held without bail. Tougas is in the custody of the Rhode Island Sheriff’s Department.
