TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in central Illinois say a man has come forward to say he was at the wheel of a car that struck and killed a 22-year-old woman on Illinois Route 48 near Stonington.

Devun L. Rohdemann of Taylorville was pronounced dead at the scene before dawn Friday. Authorities believe she’d been walking south on the highway just south of Stonington when she was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports (https://bit.ly/1sCx2FS ) a man phoned the Christian County Sheriff’s Office on Friday afternoon after hearing about the woman’s death. The man told authorities he thought he’d hit an animal.

Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp says the man’s car has been seized and he has been interviewed by Illinois State Police investigators.

There has been no arrest as of Sunday morning.
