CEDAR PARK, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas jail inmate is back in custody after he assaulted a Burnet County Jail deputy who had taken him to a hospital, stole the officer’s gun and fled.

Cedar Park police say 40-year-old Murl Lamb was captured Saturday about five hours later, hiding behind a movie theater across from the hospital where he’d been treated for a wrist injury. Cedar Park is about 15 miles north of Austin.

Lamb wasn’t handcuffed at the time of the assault but was shackled at his ankles. Police say he used the gun to shoot off the ankle restraint.

Lamb had been jailed since on aggravated robbery and burglary charges and for a parole violation. He’s now looking at new charges of escape and assault on a corrections officer.
