BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A 48-year-old Bismarck man is in custody after punching a Wal-Mart security guard in an attempt to resist being arrested in a shoplifting incident.

Police in Bismarck tell KXMB-TV (https://bit.ly/1nicfa0 ) that the man is facing a robbery charge. Police didn’t publicly identify him.

Police say the security guard tried to stop the man when he was caught taking items from the store. Authorities say the man then punched the guard and unsuccessfully tried to run away.

The maximum penalty for a robbery charge is five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
