ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Dozens of private corporations control hundreds of millions of dollars that flow into and out of Florida’s public universities. But the university corporations have no obligations under state law to disclose who donates, how much they pay staffers and how much their contractors earn, even as they have sought and won some of the same legal protections as state agencies in recent years.

To illustrate the issue, The Associated Press recently requested records on staff salaries, donors and contracts from almost three dozen of Florida’s biggest university corporations. Not one corporation, also known as university direct-support organizations, or DSOs, provided information for all three requests. Here were the responses.
