CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - State regulators say a drilling accident in Doddridge County might have affected five private water wells.

Department of Environmental Protection spokeswoman Kelley Gillenwater tells The Exponent Telegram (https://bit.ly/ZAcTEK ) that the finding is based on a preliminary review of water testing results provided by Antero Resources.

A drill at Antero’s Primm Pad collided with a natural gas well as the company was drilling another well on Sept. 24. The DEP has said the collision could have caused methane to be released from the existing well.

Gillenwater says the well pad remains shut down.

Antero Appalachia regional vice president Al Schopp says the company is monitoring the accident’s potential effects on water walls in the area.
