GONZALES, La. (AP) - The assistant fire chief of a volunteer fire department in Darrow has surrendered after city police discovered he allegedly had been using an Ascension Parish government fuel card to fill up his pickup.

Gonzales Police Detective Sgt. Steven Nethken says 30-year-old Tarrell Markeith Milan, of Darrow, was arrested Monday on 14 counts of unauthorized use of an access card and booked into the Ascension Parish Prison.

The Advocate reports ( ) Nethken said Fifth Ward Fire Chief Peter Roblin had discovered unusually high fuel purchases in weekly reports for the card involving Milan and reported the problem Sept. 22. Gas station surveillance cameras show Milan filling up his Ford F-150 truck.

Nethken says Milan charged $807.44 on the car for his truck since March.
