NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say an 84-year-old man has died and an 82-year-old man is injured after their fishing boat capsized off Staten Island.

The Coast Guard and FDNY tell the Advance ( ) that a “mayday” call was received around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday saying a vessel was sinking about 3 miles offshore.

Coast Guard spokesman Charles Rowe says rescuers found the 19-foot power boat partially submerged.

Firefighter Chris Tucker says the 82-year-old was clinging to the boat. He says the man was exhausted and couldn’t keep his head above the water. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

The 84-year-old was face-down in the 68-degree water. He could not be revived.

Preliminary information indicated their anchor line wrapped around the motor, causing the boat to become unstable.
