SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Seven Utah National Guard soldiers are back home early after a seven-month deployment to Afghanistan.

The group from the 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion arrived Monday evening at the Salt Lake City International Airport. They had flown to Fort Hood, Texas a few days earlier.

Their deployment was scheduled to last 12 months, but they returned earlier than expected as the U.S. winds down military operations in Afghanistan.

More soldiers from the 32-person detachment are scheduled to return early over the next few months.
