BOSTON (AP) - Democrat Martha Coakley’s campaign is pointing to an outsourcing award Republican Charlie Baker accepted in 2008 when he was CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care to try to undercut his campaign image of a job creator who will boost the state’s economy.

The Outsourcing Center’s “Outsourcing Excellence Award” for best partnership went to Harvard Pilgrim and Perot Systems. The group said “outsourcing turned out to be the transfusion (Harvard Pilgrim) needed” to recover from near bankruptcy.

Coakley campaign manager Tim Foley said the award shows that even after the Harvard Pilgrim turnaround was complete, Baker continued to send jobs overseas that could have been filled by Massachusetts workers.

Baker campaign spokesman Tim Buckley criticizes what he called “another misleading political attack” and said Baker’s stewardship of Harvard Pilgrim helped save the company and thousands of jobs.
