MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A trail of muddy footprints has led to burglary charges against a Memphis man.

According to a police affidavit, a man who returned to his apartment in East Memphis on Sunday found his 40-inch TV gone, but something had been left behind: muddy footprints. According to police, the man followed the footprints to a nearby apartment, knocked on the door and asked for his TV back.

The affidavit says the victim then had a gun pointed at him and was told to leave.

The victim called police, who said officers found the TV and a gun in the apartment of 41-year-old Mercury Collins after getting consent to search.

Collins is charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and theft. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
