FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say there appears to be a link between the fatal shooting of a teenager and a stabbing that left a man seriously injured.

But it’s not clear what sparked the incidents, which occurred Monday night in Franklin Township.

Somerset County prosecutors say police responding to shooting call found Joel Burton in a church parking lot. The 17-year-old New Brunswick boy had been shot in the chest and was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

About 10 minutes later, police were notified about a stabbing victim in an area not far from the church.

The victim, a 19-year-old man, had stab wounds and lacerations on his upper torso and arm. He was being treated at a hospital, but further details on his condition weren’t disclosed.
