MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) - Firefighters in the Portland suburb of Milwaukie have rescued a woman from a house fire.

Clackamas Fire District 1 spokesman Brandon Paxton said the woman was taken to a hospital late Tuesday afternoon in serious condition.

He tells KATU-TV that rescuers had difficulty reaching the person in a back bedroom because of “excessive clutter” inside the home.

Paxton says a neighbor child returning from school first noticed the fire and alerted his father, who called 911.

Investigators say the blaze was caused by cooking and combustibles too close to the stove.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.
