DETROIT (AP) - AAA is announcing a more than $200,000 donation to the Detroit Public Schools district as part of an effort to support the Safe Routes to School program.

The auto club plans to announce the funding Thursday at a Detroit event where district officials, the Detroit Youth Violence Initiative and other agencies are expected to unveil a newly coordinated strategy to keep students safe heading to and from school.

Efforts will focus on coordinated Safe Zones, volunteer vehicle patrols, street light replacement, blight removal and other efforts.
