NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) - A southern Minnesota man accused of killing his girlfriend and dismembering her body won’t contest his high bail.

Twenty-six-year-old Miguel Angel Vasquez is being held in Brown County on $2 million with no conditions or $1 million with conditions in the death of 22-year-old Amber Lechuga, the mother of his children. Vasquez is accused of killing Lechuga and dismembering her body before trying to burn her remains in their van.

The Free Press of Mankato (https://bit.ly/1qsKx6j ) reports Vasquez’s public defender, Scott Cutcher, said Tuesday they decided not to contest the bail because Vasquez is unlikely to afford bond.

An autopsy found Lechuga had two gunshot wounds to her head, fired at close range. Police recovered her head in the nearby Cottonwood River and her limbs in a separate location in the van.
