CENTER, Colo. (AP) - Police in the San Luis Valley town of Center say a 17-year-old boy arrested on Tuesday is accused of shooting his sister’s boyfriend.

The Valley Courier (https://bit.ly/1w8xFrL) reports that the 22-year-old boyfriend, who lives with the family, was flown to Denver after Monday night’s shooting. He was listed in stable condition then but his current condition hasn’t been released.

Police chief William Lucero said the shooting happened during an argument. He said the boyfriend didn’t realize the teen had a gun and was shot broadside as he was walking.

The teen is a student at the farming community’s alternative school. He is not being identified because he is a juvenile.

Students at schools in the town of about 2,200 people were kept inside Tuesday as police searched for him.
