CORINTH, Miss. (AP) - Corinth police Capt. Ralph Dance has been elected police chief.

The Daily Corinthian reports (https://bit.ly/1sRmK4Y ) complete, but unofficial results from Tuesday’s election, showed Dance winning with 72 percent of the vote over Fred Gooch.

Dance, who previously worked as an investigator in the district attorney’s office and is currently captain of detectives.

Dance will succeed outgoing chief David Lancaster, who is retiring.

Dance plans to take the oath next week.

Gooch, who made his first run for an elected office, has been with the police force since 2004.
