GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - A Galveston man has pleaded not guilty in the 2011 slaying of a man gunned down while riding his bicycle.

The Galveston County Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1sKc3C9 ) 25-year-old Ralph Garcia entered the plea on Tuesday. The Galveston man known for his mixed martial arts fighting is charged with killing 28-year-old Maxie Flowers.

No charges were filed in Flowers’ death until 11 months later, when Garcia’s former girlfriend spoke to police.

Prosecutors say Garcia took a shotgun from under his mattress, ordered his then-girlfriend into a truck and tracked down Flowers, who was shot three times. They say the men had a dispute about the woman.

Defense attorneys say no DNA evidence connects Garcia to the shooting and the gun used to kill Flowers hasn’t been recovered.
