ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens is offering tips to Georgians whose homes or other property may have been damaged in storms that hit the state earlier this week.

Hudgens says consumers should contact their insurers immediately if bad weather caused damage to their homes or vehicles. Hudgens says consumers should also make a list of all property and valuables that may have been damaged or destroyed. Hudgens encourages consumers to take photos of these items to submit with insurance claims.

The commissioner says Georgians should also secure property that was damaged by bad weather and cover any exposed areas with tarp or plywood.

Consumers with questions about filing claims are asked to call the consumer services hotline at 1-800-656-2298 between 8 and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
