JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Hinds County man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for fatally shooting his wife and a man outside a Jackson motel in 2012.

Jessie Freeman was convicted in September of one count of manslaughter and one count of depraved heart murder.

Prosecutors say Freeman rammed his car into a truck his wife Lenora Freeman and Allen Ramsey were in, prosecutors said. The incident happened outside the Studio Motel 6 in north Jackson. The truck flipped over. Authorities say Lenora Freeman and Ramsey were shot.

Ramsey died at the scene. Lenora Freeman died after being hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the head.

Freeman claimed self-defense. He argued Ramsey was also armed and was the aggressor.

Freeman was sentenced Tuesday in Hinds County Circuit Court.
