In New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District, Democrat Aimee Belgard is continuing to gather more donations than Republican Tom MacArthur.

But MacArthur has a big advantage when it comes to spending because he put $4 million of his own money into the election by Sept. 30.

Wednesday was the deadline to file campaign finance reports with the Federal Election Commission. Both campaigns provided fundraising documents to The Associated Press before the FEC posted the information on its website.

Belgard reports raising $579,000 from July through September and spending $590,000.

MacArthur says he raised $346,000 in donations and kicked in $1 million of his own through September. He spent $1.9 million during the quarter.

Belgard has received help from $1.3 million in independent expenditures since August, compared with $7,000 for MacArthur.
