JUNCTION CITY, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky man charged with murder in the death of a 13-month-old boy has pleaded not guilty.

The Advocate-Messenger (https://bit.ly/1sHWcTc) reports 25-year-old Joseph A. Adams of Junction City appeared Tuesday morning in Boyle County District Court via video from jail. Judge Jeff L. Dotson entered a not guilty plea for Adams and ordered him to be held without bond.

Police say Christopher Preston was in Adams’ care when he was injured Friday morning and was taken to a Danville hospital, where he died. Police said a preliminary examination showed the boy died as a result of severe trauma.

According to court documents, Adams told police the boy’s 2-year-old sister injured him, but officers said his story wasn’t consistent with the extent of “extensive trauma” suffered.
