FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A central New Jersey man who was found stabbed this week is now charged with murder in the shooting death of a teenage boy.

Authorities say 19-year-old Dequan Rogers, of Franklin Township, was injured Monday night during a confrontation with 17-year-old Joell Burton. Rogers also faces two weapons counts.

Somerset County prosecutors say Rogers and Burton “crossed paths” and soon became involved in a physical altercation. They say the pair knew each other, but it’s still not known what sparked the brawl.

Rogers was stabbed in the upper torso and suffered an arm laceration. He allegedly used a small caliber semi-automatic handgun to fire one round at Burton, who was struck in the chest.

Rogers bail was set at $500,000 cash. It wasn’t known Wednesday if he’s retained an attorney.
