OSKALOOSA, Iowa (AP) - A former employee for the Iowa Department of Agriculture has been accused of stealing more than $241,000 from her employer.

The state Department of Public Safety says Jessica Strasser turned herself in Wednesday. She faces charges of first-degree theft and ongoing criminal conduct. Court records do not list an attorney.

The state auditor’s office released a report in early October on the Mahaska County Soil and Water Conservation District for a time period between March 2006 and August 2013. It identified nearly $280,000 in improper disbursements and undeposited collections. Records indicate Strasser, who was secretary for the district, withdrew more than $241,000 in cash.

Strasser resigned from the agriculture department in August 2013.
