PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a teenager is accused of stabbing his father during an argument at their Panama City Beach home.

The News Herald of Panama City (https://bit.ly/1u48ge5 ) reports 18-year-old Jared Gay told police he armed himself with a knife when he heard his father come home on Monday night.

Police say an argument began because the teen had left his father stranded at a local business. When 45-year-old Bryant Gay saw the knife, he armed himself with a “slapjack” but was stabbed twice in the chest.

Bryant Gay is a Florida Highway Patrol officer.

He was recovering on Wednesday from the stab wounds, lacerations to the face and a punctured lung.

An investigation is underway. The teen is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
