TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Police in Tacoma say they think a man suspected of robbing a bank is the same man who suffered life-threatening injuries when his SUV collided with another vehicle a short time later.

The News Tribune reports (https://is.gd/jrGRa8) that police spokeswoman Loretta Cool says a Key Bank branch was robbed Tuesday afternoon by a man in his 20s or 30s who handed a note to a bank worker, demanded cash and implied he had a weapon.

A short time later police saw a black SUV they thought matched a description of the robber’s vehicle. The SUV sped off and Cool says it was involved a short time later in a collision with a white van.

The spokeswoman says the SUV driver matched the description of the bank robber. The driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

Three people in the van were also sent to a hospital.
