PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A Wood County man is scheduled to stand trial next year on charges of killing a 1-year-old girl.

Media outlets report that 29-year-old Curtis Dean Richards II pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges of murder of a child by a guardian or custodian, death of a child by a guardian or custodian and murder. The St. Marys man also pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a restaurant theft.

Richards is accused of killing Ariella Noel Merinar on Aug. 5 in Parkersburg. Police say the girl was left in Richards’ care at her mother’s apartment.

Wood County Circuit Court Judge J.D. Beane scheduled Richards’ trial to begin Feb. 23, 2015.

Richards was captured in Mexico City in late September.
