ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - Police are looking for a man who tried to use a forklift to steal an ATM from a St. George convention center.

St. George police say an employee spotted the man on a forklift inside the convention center’s lobby around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the man was trying to remove the ATM with the forklift but when the employee entered the lobby, the man ran out the front doors.

Sgt. Sam Despain says the ATM had been bolted into the ground but the man was able to remove it.

Despain says the man left the ATM behind when he fled and the machine was too damaged to be used again.

Despain says the forklift belonged to the convention center and had been stored elsewhere in the building.
