WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) - Woonsocket police say seven children suffered minor injuries in an accident involving a bus and another vehicle.

Police said Thursday they responded to an accident involving a bus with 31 children on board ranging from 7 to 11 years old. Five students and two children inside a vehicle being driven by Melissa Escomilha of Woonsocket were taken to Landmark Medical Center.

Police say Escomilha had scrapes on her chin and blood on her shirt, and ran when an officer approached her. Police say she yelled obscenities and began “mule kicking” an officer taking her to the police station.

Escomilha was charged leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, simple assault and other charges. A message was left at a telephone listing in her name.

The accident is under investigation.
