MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama’s tourism department has won a regional award for its two-year campaign highlighting the state’s food.

State tourism officials said in a statement that the department was honored Wednesday night with a Shining Example award from the Southeast Tourism Society in Charleston, South Carolina.

Officials say the campaign included a statewide restaurant week and a mobile application highlighting the 100 dishes residents and visitors should try.

Tourism Director Lee Sentell says this is the fourth year in the past decade that Alabama has won the tourism award. Sentell says Alabama won awards in 2004, 2005 and in 2010.

State and local tourism agencies in 12 states were eligible for the awards.
