MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota guard Rachel Banham has been named the Big Ten’s preseason Player of the Year.

Banham was selected by both the league’s head coaches and media.

Last season, Banham averaged 22.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals. She was a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award.

Going into her senior year, the Lakeville native is just seven points away from becoming the fourth Gopher in program history to score 2,000 career points.

Minnesota sophomore center Amanda Zahui B. was voted onto the media’s All-Big Ten Team. Zahui B. finished her rookie season as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after averaging a double-double with 15.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per game.
