RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) - Dan Newhouse’s congressional campaign has been dropped from a federal lawsuit filed by his opponent Clint Didier.

The Tri-City Herald reports (https://bit.ly/11xnDVE ) that Didier’s lawyer pulled Newhouse out of the lawsuit on Thursday. But the lawsuit still names Chris Voigt, executive director of the state potato commission. Didier claims Voigt used his commission account to send emails encouraging people to attend a Newhouse fundraiser and donate to his campaign.

The dismissal filed in federal court in Richland came two days after Newhouse’s lawyer sent a notice to Didier’s lawyer saying he would have to personally pay Newhouse’s legal fees if the case is found frivolous.

Newhouse, a conservative Republican, and Didier, a tea party favorite, are vying for the U.S. Representative seat in the 4th District.
