DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A 62-year-old Dubuque woman has been accused of stealing fines and fee payments when she worked at the public library in Dubuque.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald (https://bit.ly/1nq9dk1 ) says Barbara Nyheim turned herself in on Tuesday to face a felony theft charge. Online court records don’t list the name of her attorney.

Library director Susan Hendricks initially reported a theft of about $17,200 but now says the total may be more than $50,000. An audit of the library’s fine system discovered the money was missing.

Court records say Nyheim told investigators she’d been taking money from the library since 2009.
