PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A Jackson County grand jury has indicted former Moss Point basketball coach Micoe Cotton for allegedly having sexual relations with a student.

Cotton is charged with 14 counts of sexual battery and one count of child exploitation. He is free on $35,000 bond.

Prosecutors said the child-exploitation charge is related to a video Moss Point police found on Cotton’s iPhone showing the girl having oral sex with a man identified as him.

Cotton was arrested in May.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1pfR57V) Cotton was charged with crimes while in position of trust or authority because he was a coach and teacher in the school system where the girl went to school.

Prosecutors said the FBI in Jackson also discovered explicit text messages and videos on the girl’s phone.

In addition, police said they found a partially nude photo of the girl in a text message between Cotton and the girl. Police said the girl talked about having sex with Cotton and identified herself in the message.

Investigators said the message string indicates the girl sent a nude photo of herself to Cotton in a text message at his request.

The GPS locator in the phone confirmed the sex between the two took place at Moss Point High, authorities said. In addition, the girl confirmed the information for police, prosecutors said.

If convicted of all charges, Cotton could go to prison for life.
