TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Tulsans can take their unused or unwanted medications - including prescription drugs- to three grocery store locations this weekend for proper disposal.

Saturday’s drug take-back event will follow Mayor Dewey Bartlett’s “Safer, Stronger Tulsa Prescription Drug Summit” on Friday.

Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family members and friends.

Officials estimate that prescription drug overdoses kill nearly two Oklahomans a day and are the leading cause of death for Oklahomans age 25 to 64.

Oklahoma ranks fifth nationally for drug overdose mortality, according to statistics.
