IOWA STATE (2-4, 0-3 Big 12) at TEXAS (2-4, 1-2), 7 p.m. Saturday CT (Longhorn Network)

Line: Texas by 12 1/2

Series Record: Texas leads 10-1

WHAT’S AT STAKE

Loser of two straight, Texas is now facing a desperate bid for bowl eligibility in coach Charlie Strong’s first season. The Longhorns need four wins over their final six games to get there, but home hasn’t been particularly friendly in recent years. Since 2010, Texas is just 7-10 at home in the Big 12.

KEY MATCHUP

Texas defensive line vs. Iowa State QB Sam Richardson. The Longhorns have mostly made life miserable for opposing quarterbacks, with 21 sacks this season. Get Richardson on the run and the Cyclones are likely in trouble.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Iowa State: Kickoff and punt returner Jarvis West is a scoring threat. He returned a punt for a TD against Kansas State. Texas special teams have been bad and surrendered a first-quarter kickoff return touchdown last week against Oklahoma. Special teams touchdowns could spark an Iowa State upset.

Texas: Just when Longhorns fans were calling for backup Jerrod Heard, starting quarterback Tyrone Swoopes played his best game of the season in the loss to Oklahoma. But he has to be convincing in a win to really change the minds of Texas fans.
