NEW YORK (AP) - Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal showed up in New York City to endorse Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino for governor.

At a news conference in Manhattan Thursday, Jindal said Astorino is “going to be a great governor” whether it’s dealing with the failing economy, failing schools, taxes or Ebola.

The Republican governor also criticized the government’s response to the Ebola crisis, saying it amounted to “incompetence and malpractice” and said New York officials were “counting on hope” that the situation doesn’t worsen.

So far, there have been no reported cases of Ebola in New York.

Hours earlier, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the state’s stepped-up response to Ebola. The incumbent governor running for re-election says hospitals across the state are being drilled in their anti-Ebola response.
