BOSTON (AP) - Prosecutors say they plan to respond by Oct. 31 to a request by lawyers for Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR’ tsahr-NEYE’-ehv) seeking evidence linking Tsarnaev’s late brother to a 2011 triple slaying in Waltham.

Defense lawyers have said a prosecution witness could testify Dzhokhar knew his brother Tamerlan was involved in the unsolved killings of three men. The lawyers say that could show Tamerlan wielded influence over his brother in the 2013 bombings that killed three people and injured about 260. Tamleran died in a shootout with police after the bombings.

The joint filing Thursday also asked for a Nov. 5 status hearing and outlined progress on sharing evidence and completing jury selection procedures for the Jan. 5 trial.

Tsarnaev has pleaded not guilty.
