MONTCLAIR, N.J. (AP) - Commuters now have a new option for parking their bikes at the Bay Street train station in Montclair.

The New Jersey Bike and Walk Coalition and the town unveiled a new bike depot at the station Thursday. NJ Transit says it’s the first of its kind along the transit system.

It will allow bike riders to pay a membership fee and then get an access card to get into the depot to store their bikes. It will also be equipped with a 24/7 security camera.

Membership costs $20 a month or $220 for the year.

Cindy Steiner, the group’s executive director, says that it can serve as a model for other NJ Transit stations. She says the secure system will allow commuters to ride higher-quality bikes to the station.
