PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) - A Crook County sheriff’s officer says a 76-year-old Redmond, Oregon, man has died in a firewood-cutting accident in the Ochoco National Forest in central Oregon.

Undersheriff John Gautney says Terry Dean Dessenberger and a friend were cutting firewood Thursday when part of a tree fell on Dessenberger. The friend was able to pull Dessenberger free and attempted CPR but couldn’t revive him.

Gautney says since there was no cellphone service in the area, the friend drove out to a Forest Service road and found a work crew. Crew members went to the scene but were also unable to revive the victim.
