SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of an intruder who was fatally shot by an apartment resident in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale police say the victim was 26-year-old Darren Sparks.

The resident called police shortly before midnight Tuesday saying he shot someone trying to break into the apartment.

Police arrived and found Sparks dead inside the apartment.

They say Sparks entered the residence and demanded cash and property from two brothers and a female acquaintance.

There was a struggle before one of the brothers grabbed a rifle and shot Sparks.

Officers searched the apartment and say illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were recovered along with the weapon believed used in the shooting.
