NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - State police say they’ve charged a 73-year-old Hudson Valley man with collecting his dead mother’s Social Security benefits for more than a decade.

Troopers say Thomas Toomer of the Orange County town of Newburgh collected the benefits from the time of his mother’s death in April 1999 until September 2013. Investigators say he got more than $85,000 over the 14-year span.

Toomer was charged with grand larceny.

He was released from the county jail after posting $5,000 bail. It couldn’t’ be determined if he has a lawyer.
