WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) - A new poll shows Republican U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo well ahead of his Democratic challenger in southern New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District.

The Monmouth University Poll released Thursday shows the 10-term incumbent with a 21-point lead over Democrat Bill Hughes Jr. in the district along the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay.

The poll has LoBiondo with support of 56 percent of likely voters to 35 percent for Hughes. Two percent supported other candidates and 7 percent were undecided.

The poll contradicts one two weeks ago by The Richard Stockton College that showed LoBiondo with only a slight lead over Democrat Bill Hughes Jr.

The Monmouth poll of 438 randomly selected likely voters reached by phone was conducted Oct. 12-14 and has a sampling error of plus or minus 4.7 points.
