WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A teachers strike will go on for another day after negotiators for teachers and Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 failed to reach a contract agreement.

Representatives of the Lake County Federation of Teachers and the school district negotiated for most of the day Wednesday before giving up on efforts to end the strike.

Thursday marks the ninth school day Waukegan’s approximately 17,000 students will be out of class.

Both sides say progress has been made in recent sessions, but they continue to be at an impasse on salary increases.

Waukegan Public School Board negotiator Tony Ficarelli says he hopes talks will end with an agreement within the next few days.
