ORONOKO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 14-month-old southwestern Michigan girl has died after being struck by her family’s car.

Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police officials say the girl died in her driveway Thursday morning in the Berrien County township. Acting Chief Rick Smiedendorf says the car was driven by a family member, who struck the child while backing out of the garage.

Officers say names of those involved will be released later, and results of their investigation will be sent prosecutors for review.

Smiedendorf says the review is a formality for what he described as “just a very unfortunate, tragic accident.”
