ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Demolition of the current building that houses Winnebago County’s morgue is just a few months away. However, officials there say they haven’t decided where they will set up shop temporarily to store bodies and conduct autopsies.

The Rockford Register Star (https://bit.ly/1pcQnbN ) reports a number of options have been discussed, including building a morgue at a downtown Rockford office building and housing the bodies at the Juvenile Detention Center.

County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen has suggested setting up temporary cooling trailers. However, Coroner Sue Fiduccia says such a set up could require the undignified moving of bodies. She also worries someone might break into the trailers to tamper with the bodies.

Demolition of the Public Safety Building, where the morgue is located, is scheduled to begin in February.
