CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 6.6 percent in September.

WorkForce West Virginia says that rate translates to 52,800 unemployed in the state, up 2,200 from a year ago. The state’s unemployment rate tops the national jobless rate, which was 5.9 percent last month.

The up-and-down unemployment numbers included job gains in mining and logging and manufacturing, while declines were recorded in construction and trades, transportation and utilities.

Since September 2013, total nonfarm payroll employment has risen by 16,500.
