ST. LOUIS (AP) - A pedestrian was killed Friday and a motorist badly injured in two separate interstate crashes in the St. Louis area.

The unidentified pedestrian’s death on Interstate 70 in St. Charles shut down eastbound traffic for two-and-a-half hours during the early morning commute before it was reopened by 7 a.m. The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating the man’s death.

In St. Louis, police say a 25-year-old driver was critically injured about 8 a.m. after his car hit a median on southbound Interstate 55 near Arsenal Street and then flipped over. The city police department did not immediately release the name of the victim, who a department spokeswoman initially said had died from his injuries.
