POWELL, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee high school football coach has been suspended amid an investigation into whether he unnecessarily put students at risk of injury.

John Allen, the head coach at Powell High School, is on administrative suspension from coaching pending the outcome of the investigation, according to a statement released Friday by Knox County Schools spokesperson Melissa Ogden. The statement said it was an investigation “into allegations of unnecessarily placing students at risk of injury” and didn’t offer additional details.

Ogden said the matter has been referred to the Department of Children’s Services. Ogden said Allen remains an economics and personal finance teacher at Powell, located about 10 miles northwest of Knoxville.

Larry Neely was named Powell’s interim head coach.
